Concert review: Gorgeous Got a Gun at the Fonda Music Box

Image
Friday night was rain soaked in Hollywood. Perfect for a late evening performance at the Fonda Music Box Theater. The occasion was the RAW Artist Awards, for which Gorgeous Got a Gun was nominated for Musicians of the Year and where they would be headlining following the event.

Note from the post-dawn hour

I awoke to an exceedingly nice message from a friend and professional colleague today, complimenting my review of the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. It was both flattering and eye opening to hear his thoughts. If it were within my power, I would buy a copy of every band's album I review for every person who reads my music-fueled ramblings. That being absurdly impractical, I sincerely hope that if you take the time to read what I've put pen to paper, err, wait... put fingers to QWERTY for, that it inspires you to open your ears to new sounds. And now, there's a concert I must tell you about...

Review of Daft Punk's Tron Legacy Soundtrack

Image
Greetings Programs! Last week, I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of Tron: Legacy . If you follow me on Twitter , then you know just how much I enjoyed Daft Punk’s soundtrack for the film. It has dominated my music listening this week, including earning repeated spin status of half a dozen times in one day. But, like so many great sets of music out there, sometimes a 140 character review isn’t enough.

In Memorium... "On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams" For the Late Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley

Razzle, pictured far right. December the 8th is one of the darkest days in the history of rock music. Three musician's lives were cut tragically short on this date. John Lennon in 1980, Dimebag Darrell Abbott in 2004 and Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley in 1984. All three were taken way too soon. All by the hands or the actions of another. Lennon and Dimebag annually receive numerous tributes on this date. Razzle and his band mates in Hanoi Rocks deserve one as well.

Concert review: Rocket, Live at the Three Clubs

I've been on-again/off-again about launching this blog for the better part of this year, being mostly content to keep my ramblings about the manifestations of the euterpean muse limited to 140 characters. But last night I went to a concert which caused me to wake up with a song stuck in my head and an overwhelming desire to tell you about it.

Mission Statement

If you find yourself reading this particular corner of the interwebs, you must love music. Music in all of its many manifestations. And for that, I throw the horns in your general direction, because you rock! I have only one rule on this blog. I don't give negative reviews. There is enough negativity on the Internet to last an untold number of lifetimes and I for one am not here to add to it. There are more than enough outlets for slagging on hardworking musicians and the sounds they create. I do not consider myself a music critic. If I review an album or concert, its because there was something about it which I truly enjoyed and I want to share it with you. If this isn't your particular cup of tea, that's cool, and may the road rise to you. If however you are still with me, I sincerely hope that something I write about brings as much joy to your ears as it does to mine.
