Prom Queen Album Review

Image
Covering famous songs is tricky business. The musical corners of the Internet are a veritable minefield of questionable to downright criminally-bad covers. But every so often, a cover (or in this case a set of them) makes a bold statement with a level of originality in their performance. Such is the case with Covers , a new set of sultry reinterpretations of famous songs from Prom Queen.

Probably The Best Hardcore Music Video, Ever (Probably)

Image
Well here is something you don't see every day: An eight-year-old Australian girl in a music video belting out a hardcore song. In a mere :59 seconds, nearly every trope of the genre is executed with precision. From the moody facial expressions, to the thrashing about of long hair erasing the vocalist's face to the well placed rack focus shots. Props must also be given on the stuffed animal mosh pit on a trampoline. At :59 seconds, "My First Hardcore Song" is the perfect length for a video such as this. It is also worth noting here that eight year-old Juliet can sing circles around many "singers" of this genre who do little more than strain their vocal cords to the point of snapping. Bravo, Juliet. Bravo. Tweet Follow @LinerNotes

What if Album Covers Were Updated After Group Members Passed Away?

An odd notion, wouldn't you say? One that is explored in sublime and chilling fashion on the ironically named "Live!" tumblr. In one of the best examples of the Photoshopping artistry of this tumblr's curators, Roberta Bayley's legendary cover photograph of the Ramones debut album is reduced to a lone Tommy Ramone, standing against the iconic New York brick wall; his late band mates having shuffled off this mortal coil. The "Live!" tumblr features 21 album covers done in similar fashion, with results ranging from ordinary to hauntingly effective. There are however a number of covers which could join this macabre gallery.

Found on YouTube - An Encore Performance of Skyrim Music from a True Bard

Image
At the beginning of December, from seemingly out of nowhere, came forth a bard, with an angelic voice and an equally angelic countenance. Malukah blew away fans of the video game Skyrim with her performance of "The Dragonborn Comes" like a well executed Fus Ro Dah. Just a month later and Malukah is back with her follow up.

Listening Ahead - The Sounds of 2012

Happy New Year to you! There are many things in the world of music which fans can be listening forward to in 2012. We are going to focus on what we know, or at least what has been announced will be happening this year, avoiding ( shudder ) predictions. Why avoid predictions? Mainly since that word gets thrown around and given way too much press in relation to this year's number on the Gregorian calender. Especially when it involves the story of an ancient Mayan marketing guru who realized making calendars annually could increase revenue got blown out of proportion.
