In memorium... Bob Casale (Bob 2) of DEVO

The Great Gig in the Sky just got a new member of it's guitar chorus, as we have unexpectedly had to say goodbye to DEVO guitarist, Bob Casale, who passed away from heart failure yesterday.

Affectionately known as Bob 2, as he was the second "Bob" to join the band after Bob 1 (Bob Mothersbaugh), Casale was the younger brother of fellow DEVO member Jerry Casale.

Bob played on each of DEVO's albums, including their comeback release Something for Everybody in 2010. Casale also contributed keyboards and vocals to the band's sound.

In addition to being a member of DEVO, Casale worked as a recording engineer with Mutato Muzika, the music production company created by DEVO co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh. Casale worked on a staggering number of productions at Mutato, including soundtracks for the Rugrats, Beakman's World, Moonrise Kingdom, Bottle Rocket and video games including The Sims 2, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and the Crash Bandicoot series.

Mark Mothersbaugh posted the following message to Mutato's website following the news:

“We are shocked and saddened by Bob Casale’s passing. He not only was integral in DEVO’s sound, he worked over twenty years at Mutato, collaborating with me on sixty or seventy films and television shows, not to mention countless commercials and many video games. Bob was instrumental in creating the sound of projects as varied as Rugrats and Wes Anderson’s films. He was a great friend. I will miss him greatly. “ -Mark Mothersbaugh

Casale is the second member of DEVO to pass away in less than a year. Drummer Alan Myers passed away from stomach cancer on June 24th of last year.
