Flappy Bird is Dead. Long Live Fall Out Bird!

We find ourselves at the corner of Necessity is the Mother of Invention Street and Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery Boulevard today. Illinois pop punks Fall Out Boy are stepping up to help game-starved Internetizens, by releasing Fall Out Bird. Yes. Really.

The band reportedly coded their version of the impossibly-hard-to-play app in under 24 hours. This, just days after original game creator Dong Nguyen had his viral sensation pulled from app stores, citing concerns it had become too addictive to players.

Fall Out Bird hasn't been approved for download as of press time, but will be available for both iOS and Android devices. The stunt should also have the effect of getting the recently reformed band's name (and undoubtedly its music) back in the public's ear.

You have to hand it to Fall Out Boy though. While there will surely be are other imitators, the band is, perhaps unknowingly, offering up a very safe version of the game from an official source, as more nefarious individuals are coding malware into cloned versions of the game, in an attempt to draft off of the increased interest in the now-deleted original.
