The Ramones are Dead. Long Live The Ramones!

In early 2012, I wrote about a tumblr which featured the stirring, artistic re-imaginings of album covers after members of the band had passed on to join the Great Gig in the Sky. The album cover which struck the loudest chord with me was the Ramones' 1976 debut, with only Tommy Ramone remaining against that iconic New York City brick wall. On July 11th of this year, we lost Tommy Ramone. The second thing I thought of upon hearing the news was; would the duo behind LIVE! (I See Dead People) come out of retirement to complete the piece. They did.

I reached out to the people behind the reworked album covers via Twitter on the day Tommy passed. As it was not an actively used account I didn't expect to hear anything back. This morning, I received a tweet from Jean-Marie Delbes.

And there it was. The first new post to grace the LIVE! (I See Dead People) tumblr in three years. The Ramones had quite literally, left the building.

Like many forms of art, these album cover decompositions simultaneously engender an urge to go on at length about them, yet also leave the viewer virtually speechless. In this case, I'm going with the latter.

Rest in Peace, Ramones.
