Album August, or 33 in 33
Welcome to the first day of Album August! As the month of August has a rather limited supply of holidays, what better time than this especially awesome month to celebrate music in a very holiday way. Here is what we are going to do. Each night, I will be reviewing an album. Some nights it might be a familiar music group, as much as possible it will be about an undiscovered artist which will likely be completely new to your ears. Many of these examples of untapped talent will be bands/soloists suggested by you.
On as many nights as possible, the review will be done live, via Twitter, and will offer a chance for you to listen along in real time and share your thoughts during the review. This #LiveTweet format is quite fun and gives us a chance to revitalize the lost art of the communal listening experience. If you've never sat down with a group of friends and just listened to a slab of vinyl, or a new disc from your favorite band, you need to try it. To make that happen, as much as possible, the #LiveTweet reviews will be done where the music is easily accessible via bandcamp or Soundcloud.
What artists will be featured? Well we don't want to give anything away just yet, do we? Nor do we want to be tied to a specific list, lest something new and shiny and loud catches our ear. I have put together a loose calendar of albums I would like to feature. A couple are set in stone, for milestone anniversary reasons, and some are discs I've been holding off on reviewing until now. In fact, tonight's first listen has already changed from what I'd planned it to be.
And because everyone always says they wish summer would last just a little bit longer, we are going to do 33 nights of Album August. 33 albums in 33 nights, right through Labor Day. Hopefully, you can find the time to open your ears to some new sounds and perhaps even styles of music. Grab your headphones or sod the neighbors and crank up the speakers! And thank you in advance, for listening!
