Rest in Peace... Dave Brubeck
The word legend is often thrown around far too lightly. In this case, "legend" is completely appropriate and should be placed alongside "genius" and "innovator" when talking about musician Dave Brubeck, who passed away this morning, one day shy of his 92nd birthday.
If you've never listened to a single note of jazz, you need to hear the Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time Out, because in the canon of "must listen albums" this one ranks in the realm of required listening. Please take five and enjoy the swinging 5/4 time signature of The Dave Brubeck Quartet's, "Take Five."
Though some would consider "Take Five" Brubeck's signature song, it was in fact written by his composing partner, saxophonist Paul Desmond.

A Brubeck composition from the platinum selling Time Out which could easily be considered another signature piece is the album opener, "Blue Rondo à la Turk." Check out this incredible live version of it from The Dave Brubeck Quartet Live At Carnegie Hall.
The art form of Jazz is something which more people, especially younger music listeners, should endeavour to enjoy. The Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time Out is the perfect starting place.

Dave Brubeck was still performing live up until a couple of years ago. He leaves behind a legacy of utterly amazing music. To quote my friend, mentor and huge Brubeck fan, Dennis Michael, "there is going to be a great jam session in Jazz Valhalla tonight."
