Russian Guitarist's Stellar Cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"

In the not too distant past, hearing a quality cover version of a popular song was an exceedingly rare thing. With the proliferation of creative and legitimately talented individuals in the YouTube-era however, we get to hear interesting re-imaginings of songs almost as soon as they gain a modicum of popularity. Such is the case with a stellar, acoustic guitar cover of Daft Punk's hot new single, "Get Lucky," as performed by Russian guitarist and YouTube sensation, Igor Presnyakov.

Hit play and enjoy the next four minutes.

The quality of Igor Presnyakov's jazzy, finger style take on "Get Lucky" is no fluke. For the unfamiliar, Igor is a classically trained guitarist with close to four decades of experience under his guitar strap and nearly 180 million views of his YouTube channel.

Igor's style is reminiscent of acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriella, complete with body taps and string beats to replicate percussive sounds in the songs he covers. What makes this particular cover so good is not just his playing style, but how he keeps ever-so-close to the original piece, combining Nile Rodgers' guitar lines and the French Robot's synths into a single voice to deliver a complex, yet seemingly simplified rendition.

The profoundly prolific Presnyakov has over 250 "iggyfied" songs on his YouTube channel and several albums available on CD Baby. His covers include variations on classic rock standards like Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," Leonard Cohen's ubiquitous hit "Hallelujah" and meme singles, including PSY's "Gangnam Style" follow up, "Gentleman".

Much like his six-stringed, webcasting contemporaries Juliette Valduriez and 331Erock, Igor Presnyakov is a treasure for his fans and an artist worth checking out for bringing new attention to familiar songs through his own particular reinterpretations of them.

You can follow Igor Presnyakov on Twitter and Facebook and while I don't play "Smoke on the Water" nearly as well as Iggy, you can follow me on both places as well.
