EXCLUSIVE: First Review of Sonic Mayhem's Doomsday Album

Image
Just shy of three years ago, this blog featured a piece about a trailer for an upcoming album by Sonic Mayhem. Filled with mechanized, audio-visual fury, it was a high concept and very bold way of advertising a new music release. Doomsday has just dropped, and the end result is an engaging piece of aural malevolence which stands up to the visceral, visual assault which heralded it.

Rest in Peace... Christopher Lee

Legendary actor, consummate on-screen villain, and lest we forget, his most recent foray into heavy metal. He truly did it his way.

Happy Anniversary: Deep Purple In Rock Turns 45 Today

Image
On June 3rd, 1970 Deep Purple In Rock was unleashed. It was the band's fourth studio album and fifth overall in just under two years. It was the first studio release for the legendary Mk II line up (the live Concerto for Group and Orchestra was released just six months prior, but that's another song) and despite not receiving the lion's share of post-2K resurgent popularity which their peers have, Deep Purple In Rock stands monumentally as an icon of first generation hard rock and a blue print of the future for the genre of heavy metal.

"Take Five" on Solo Accordion Because, Reasons

Sometimes, an accordion rendition of the jazz standard is just what you need to hear to put a smile on your face. Props to Stanislav Samuel Raška for this performance. You do have to hand it to YouTuber Stanislav, as the majority of his accordion variations are classical pieces. And "Crazy Frog". So clearly this is a expansion of his musical boundaries, and in a very positive direction indeed. Tweet Follow @LinerNotes

Even more interesting though, were the new and clever ways the Rex Manning faithful have upped their game to celebrate the day where we mustn't despair!

45 years ago today, The Doors released Morrison Hotel , what many considered at the time to be a comeback album. Featuring songs recorded over several years and released as the follow up to 1969's The Soft Parade , the album featured the radio staple "Roadhouse Blues" along with 10 other Doors' classics. Come inside and check out how the exterior featured on the album cover looks today, and find out how another Los Angeles-born band is filling in a missing piece of the Hotel legacy.
