Album August Music Reviews - The Complete List

31 days. 31 never-heard-before albums/EP's. Album August was all about discovering new or unheard music and sharing thoughts about each release with you. We heard music dating back to the 60's all the way up to a brand new release on August 30th. Indulge me and come in for some fun facts about these 31 listens and my pick for the best from the list.

Stats can be fun with a project such as this, so here are some rather fun ones from Album August.

Of the 31 albums, seven fall under the genre umbrella of electronic, followed closely by five each from the worlds of Rock and Indie. Other genres covered included Prog, Surf, Metal, Funk and one soundtrack album (featuring the awesomely named genre "acoustic frontier trip-hop").

Seven of the albums were listened to based solely on the recommendations of my Twitter followers. Frankly, several of these were among my favorite listens. These bands were Cosmic Rough Riders,  Liechtenstein, School of Pisces, The New Mastersounds, the Bastion soundtrack, Klaypex and Bachelors of Science.

Three albums were from bands hailing from Finland. Don't laugh. Finland has an amazing music scene!

Fully half of the albums listened to were from artists of which I'd never listened to in any setting previously. Not even a single song.

19 of the releases were listened to from physical media, 3 were paid downloads with 9 of them from free web streams. Honestly, I had such a great time listening to and encouraging you the reader to listen along with the independent artists who offered up free web listens via Bandcamp and SoundCloud, that if I do a future iteration of Album August, I may feature only artists that can be listened to these ways.

Singling out one album from this list as "the best" is truly unfair to the other 30, especially in the case of some of the incredible independent releases. However, one album elicited so much positive feedback from you that it is hardly fair not to acknowledge it. That album is Breaks from the Border by The New Mastersounds. Several people told me they purchased it based on my review and I'm still getting positive sentiment from readers a couple weeks after featuring them. I even found myself listening to this album repeatedly for days after first hearing it. I can't recommend highly enough that you check it out via the band's free stream.

Hopefully you enjoyed reading and listening along during Album August as much as I did bringing it to you. A very special thank you to everyone who recommended an album to check out for Album August. Even if I didn't feature it, your contribution was appreciated. You can check out further musings on music both on this blog and via Twitter. Thank you so much for reading. And listening!
