Is anybody out there not having a good time? This Chiptune Version of the Buckaroo Banzai Theme Will Help
In an alternate reality to this one, there was a video game adaptation of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Much like the movie, it was a cult classic; a 2D side scrolling platformer beat 'em up with early examples of extremely advanced graphics. This imaginary game's theme music was lovingly crafted in 8-bit glory by game composer Andrew Lemon. The sad news; this game doesn't exist*. The rad news; the theme music does.
Turn up your speakers or put on your head cans and prepare to take a trip, across the 8-bit Dimension...
A bit of searching reveals no other chiptune variations on Michael Boddicker's Buckaroo Banzai "End Credits" theme, so this appears to be unique. Re-composer Andrew lets us behind the pixelated curtain in the description of this track on his Soundcloud page: "The percussion is from my trusty N.E.S thanks to Neil Baldwin's ace PR8 drum machine running on a real Nintendo Famicom..." Along with this further bit of music geekery: "...this is actually 32channels of real-time filtered chiptunery!"
If you love the rock 'n' roll physicist, then this should be bringing as big a smile to your face as it is to mine. And never forget...
"No matter where you go, there you are..."
*There actually was a Buckaroo Banzai game released by Adventure International in 1985 for the Apple II and other systems. It however is unlike the fantasy description above. Title screen grab of the actual game credited to mobygames.com.
