Rest in Peace... Dave Brockie of GWAR
Dave Brockie, better known to music and horror fandoms as Oderus Urungus of GWAR, passed away last night at the age of 50. According to Billboard, "foul play is not suspected and officials are waiting for the Medical Examiner's office to determine cause of death."
Brockie was a founding member of GWAR and was the last member of the original lineup of the sci-fi/horror-themed thrash metal band. Throughout the various incarnations of the band, Brockie played guitar, bass and most prominently, was the lead vocalist and leader of the Scumdogs of the Universe.
Despite not achieving mass, commercial popularity, GWAR commands a dedicated following and has multiple gold and platinum records to their credit, along with Grammy nominations for Best Long Form Music Video (Phallus in Wonderland) in 1993 and for Best Metal Performance ( "S.F.W.") in 1995.

GWAR and Oderus Urungus were famously featured in the cult-film Empire Records, during a sequence where the character Mark watches the band on television and hallucinates that Oderus invites him to join the band. The character, played by Ethan Embry is then devoured on stage by the World Maggot at the behest of Oderus.
More recently, Brockie co-starred in the horror-sitcom, Holliston, portraying Adam Green's character's imaginary alien friend named Oderus, who lives in Green's closet.
And lest we forget the time THIS happened...
Rest in Peace, Dave, and
