New Music Preview: The Title Trackers - The Greatest Hits NEVER Written
In the vast, post-2K
This trio of musicians have come up with an utterly original angle when it comes to aural odes to their rock & roll heroes. The Title Trackers do not perform covers. Instead, they record and perform "lost title tracks"; the greatest hits never written.
It is a fantastically unique conceit: Take a classic album which did not include the colloquial "title track" on it and record a loving parody loosely in the style of the original artist. In the band's words:
"We took classic albums with no title track, and set out to write and record parody songs answering the question: What might it have sounded like if the artists HAD written a title track? ... Lost Title Tracks is a stylistic parody. The music and lyrics are 100% the creation of The Title Trackers. It has absolutely no affiliation with, nor is it endorsed by (the original artists)..."
Pretty straightforward, right? The resulting sound is anything but straightforward though. It is utterly fantastic, especially if you have a love of classic rock and a good sense of humor. Take a listen to the four song preview of their forthcoming album of lost title tracks, including the never-were hits, "Welcome to the Exile on Main Street", "Checking in to the Morrison Hotel", "Full Moon Fever Gone to Our Heads" and "Chopping Down the Joshua Tree".
Of the four songs previewed here, my favorites are the dedications to Tom Petty and U2. After learning about The Title Trackers via Twitter, the band was kind enough to share with me a private listen to the full songs, and I can honestly say that each is crafted with equal parts parody and loving tribute. I don't make it a habit of giving a positive review to an album which I haven't even heard in its entirety yet, but based on what I have heard from Lost Title Tracks, I can overwhelmingly say it is on my short list of must-hear new albums this year.
