Found on YouTube - Violinist Lindsey Stirling

Image
Lindsey Stirling is one of those truly wonderful things one can find via the series of tubes of the Internet. She has been performing and independently releasing music for nearly two years, and while the above video for "Spontaneous Me" may be many people's first experience hearing and seeing her, it is Lindsey's latest song that has been on loop in my brain all week.

Return of the Bard - Malukah's Skyrim Trilogy

Image
If you know any true sons and daughters of Skyrim, tell them the song of Ulfric Stormcloak has been sung! The third part of a musical ode to the video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , as performed by Malukah, is now available. If Malukah's hauntingly beautiful voice cast a spell over your ears with her previous performances, you will want to hear this. And even if a game controller has never touched your hands, come listen just the same, to her wonderful voice.

New Song from DragonForce

Image
Now here is something my ears have been longing to hear: New music from DragonForce! This is the first proper listen we've had of new vocalist, Marc Hudson. The band are describing "Fallen World" as "the fastest song" they've ever recorded, and that is definitely no exaggeration. Put on your neck brace before listening.

BREAKING NEWS: Iron Maiden Touring North America, Summer 2012

Image
I don't usually post many "news" items here, but as a card-carrying member of the Iron Maiden FC, and since I don't think anyone saw this coming, this certainly is reason to alert the troops. Iron Maiden announced this morning they are returning to North America for a Summer tour.

The Best Cover You Will Hear This Week - Chiptune Cover of Lana Del Rey's "Video Games"

Image
While the temptation was there to post this without comment, sometimes, especially when Chiptunes artists take something to the next level of awesome, you let the words flow. And that is exactly what has been crafted by Chip artist Leeni, as she covers Lana Del Rey's "Video Games".

Concert Review - 8 Bit Weapon at The Whisky A Go-Go

Image
8 Bit Weapon, Southern California's king and queen of the chiptune scene, gave a performance last night in a venue steeped in music history. 8 Bit Weapon chip-rocked The Whisky A Go-Go, the legendary Sunset Strip club where The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Van Halen have played. But were the club goer's of the Strip ready and receptive for retro-futuristic electronica generated by game consoles?

Concert Review - Nightwish at the Gibson Amphitheater

Image
Nightwish opened their long-awaited world tour in support of the equally long-awaited Imaginaerum album at the Gibson Amphitheater on January 21st in Los Angeles, CA. Here are a pair of videos from that night.

Attention All Planets of the Solar Federation... Happy 2112 Day!

Image
Happy 2112 Day to you! Or, as many radio stations are calling it, National Rush Day. Yes, yes, I know. 2112 , the nom de annum of what many consider to be one of Rush's finest recorded works, is a year, not a date. But if Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day and National Gorilla Suit Day can be celebrated this week, then so can the first and, once-a-century celebration of 2/1/12. If you are a Rush fan, admittedly anything I write here is superfluous to your knowledge and fandom. However, if you've never had the 2112 album penetrate your musical psyche, then you really are living under the Red Star of the Solar Federation!
