Return of the Bard - Malukah's Skyrim Trilogy
If you know any true sons and daughters of Skyrim, tell them the song of Ulfric Stormcloak has been sung! The third part of a musical ode to the video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as performed by Malukah, is now available. If Malukah's hauntingly beautiful voice cast a spell over your ears with her previous performances, you will want to hear this. And even if a game controller has never touched your hands, come listen just the same, to her wonderful voice.
On her third cover of music from the game, Malukah plays for the other side of the warring factions of Skyrim, with the Stormcloak-friendly song, "The Age of Oppression".
If you've not yet heard the flip side of this septim (Skyrim coin) then listen to "The Age of Aggression" for comparison-sake. The songs are essentially the same at their core, just with lyrics from a differing political point of view. Rather than simply perform it in similar fashion to "Aggression", Malukah expands on the arrangement, referencing other musical themes of composer Jeremy Soule in it and gives a +10 to the performance with her homemade multitracking skills.
Now that we have heard three of the main bard-songs from Skyrim performed by Malukah, two things come to mind. The first is what will she follow this up with? SPOILER WARNING! If you've not finished the main quest of the game, skip to the next paragraph! Will it be the best-sung version of "Ragnar The Red" ever heard? Or will it be the post-main quest song "Tale of the Tongues"? Either way, Malukah's growing following will be anxious to hear more from her.
The second thing is a suggestion. Just a suggestion mind you, to Bethesda. Because a future DLC addition to Skyrim featuring an in-game version of Malukah the Bard performing at one of the many and varied taverns about the land is really at this point a no-brainer. And the nearly eight million views (as of the time of this writing) of her videos on YouTube would seem to agree. Again, just a suggestion. (Casting spell of Immanent Suggestion in Bethesda's general direction).
As always, Malukah's covers are a free download. Be sure to check out her covers of "The Dragonborn Comes" and "The Age of Aggression".
