Under the Covers with James Bond - "Another Way to Die"

The second outing for Daniel Craig as James Bond kept things somewhat close to the tailored vest of its predecessor. Amy Winehouse had been working on a piece for this film, but it was ultimately opened by the first duet in James Bond title song history. "Another Way to Die" from Quantum of Solace shared the heavier intoned theme of Casino Royale's "You Know My Name." Naturally, loud music can often sound even more interesting when distilled to its acoustic essence.

Admittedly, "Another Way to Die" doesn't rank high on my personal list of favourite Bond themes. However, repeated listens to Jack White and Alicia Keys performance have warmed my ears up to it. Take a listen again, if you haven't recently done so.

The requisite sounds and tones of a Bond theme are there, but for whatever reason it never clicked as strongly with some as a Bondian piece. As a standalone song though, it does play well, especially when run through the acoustic and voice-only filter of a DIY musician. Thank you, Internet.

The young lady masked by the darkened via is Lydia Low, and quite frankly, I feel she brings something very real out in her performance of "Another Way to Die." Minimal effects, no bombast, just her voice and six strings. This might even be considered an improvement upon the original by some.

The music of James Bond will return in Skyfall.
