This Chiptune and Vocaloid Cover of "Xanadu" is Totally Rad
Ever wonder what would happen if a chiptune outfit covered a classic 1980's movie theme? When that song is ELO and Olivia Newton-John's "Xanadu" and the covering artist is Japan's SEXY-SYNTHESIZER, the result is something which is all kinds of amazing.
If you've hung around here listening to music with me for any length of time, you will have undoubtedly learned I have a penchant for both a well crafted cover song and expertly composed chiptunes. SEXY-SYNTHESIZER delivers on both fronts with this recording. Go on, take a chance like Sonny Malone; skate full speed at that wall and press play.
SEXY-SYNTHESIZER absolutely nails the song from beginning to end. All of the original Electric Light Orchestra instrumentation is represented and is simultaneously given a retrotastic remake. The group brings the song's latent Disco elements fully to the surface, punctuated perfectly by the use of Synsonics Drums-style percussion hits throughout the piece.
The only thing which would have made this song even more spot on for the era which it originated from would have been the use of a vintage vocoder for Chihiro's vocals, instead of the more modern (and infinitely more popular in their homeland) vocaloid style.
The track lives on SEXY-SYNTHESIZER's Soundcloud page and is listed as being a part of "Unreleased Project Vol.3". Listening to the other music available from the group, it would be totally rad if they would flesh out additional tracks and release this for download.
